09: MOTHER

To Our Valued Readers,

We had a little bit of a scary experience this past month, with B spending several weeks in hospital. No matter what life throws at you, those who are mothers can’t ever switch off from being one. And so it’s times like this that remind us of the importance of the villages and communities around us...

B is now back home recovering, having been looked after by her own mother and friends who dropped everything, left their own kids, and travelled across the country (and world!) to love and support her through the last month, as she returns to living life and continuing to be an incredible mother to her own beautiful babies, Eva & Elijah.

Jessica spent 10 days on a self-exploration pilgrimage through Egypt with a group of powerhouse women, mothers and mothers-to-be of different backgrounds and ages; completely inspired by their fortitude through both physical discomfort and emotional upset at being apart from their little loves, but prioritising this time for themselves, for the benefit of their own growth, their children, their families and their businesses.

There are countless beautiful moments surrounding being a mother, as well as times of great loss, heartbreak, sadness, conflict and challenges. There seem to be more conversations around motherhood and what that entails these days and whether it’s a path that some wish to take or not in our current society.

Whether mother or not in this lifetime, most of us have a nurturing streak and can be reminded by Mother Nature of the importance of adapting to and embracing constant change.

At a time when the world needs more maternal love and nurturing than ever, we are grateful to be celebrating the mother in her many, many forms via the contributions to this month’s edition.

Whatever stage or chapter of life you’re currently in, we hope this month’s theme serves as a reminder to first and foremost, take care of you.

Love,

Jessica and B-2
