"The deeper the roots, the higher the growth..."
In this piece, I share three ways to ground and strengthen your foundation, with the help of the green world and her beautiful, natural elements. The tools I suggest are: crystals/stones, essential oils and plants.
When I think of a strong foundation, I think of strong, sturdy roots. I think of Mother Nature.
Roots of a tree diving deep into the earth, creating the stability and foundation for leaves and branches to grow high up into the sky.
The deeper the roots, the higher the growth.
The stronger the foundation, the sturdier the environment to expand, thrive and bloom.
Mother Nature - especially the plant world - shows us the importance of being rooted and growing strong foundations into the earth. So what better way to strengthen our own foundations and root system - our safety, security and stability - than with the guidance of Mother Nature herself?
Some of my favorite ways to ground and reconnect with the earth (and myself) are through working with crystals, essential oils and plant magic. Here are some examples of how you can use these modalities to strengthen your foundations this month and beyond.
1: Stone + Crystal Magic
What could be more grounding than stones and crystals that were created DEEP within the earth?
Like plants, animals and people, stones have unique personalities, energies and vibrations. Some help to increase intuition, some help to heal a broken heart, and some help to inspire creativity. And some - yep, you guessed it - help us to GROUND.
Here are some of my favorite crystals to work with for grounding and strengthening my connection with Mother Earth:
- Obsidian
- Black Tourmaline
- Hematite
- Tiger’s Eye
You can purchase these stones at a local crystal shop, or online. And remember, once they are safely in your hands, it’s a good idea to “cleanse” them from any previous energies.
You can carry your stone with you throughout the day, or simply hold it in your hand in the morning and evenings and connect with its energy through a few deep breaths.
2: Essential Oils
I LOVE getting creative with essential oils. They help me to relax, soften and come back to myself when my mind is racing.
Here are some of my favorite grounding essential oil blends:
2 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil
2 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
1 drop Peppermint Essential Oil
or
1 drop Sandalwood Essential Oil
1 drop Cinnamon Leaf/Bark Essential Oil
You can use these blends in a diffuser, in a bath or a roller bottle!
(If making a 10ml roller bottle, I recommend blending 12 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil, 12 drops Rosemary Essential Oil and 6 drops Peppermint Essential Oil, with a carrier oil like Jojoba. Likewise, blend 10 drops Sandalwood and 10 drops Cinnamon blended with a carrier oil for a roller bottle, as well.)
3: Connect with Plant Magic
You don’t need a green thumb to do this, nor do you need to live in a forest, I promise! I’m a city dweller, and I’ve managed to surround myself with beautiful plant magic inside and outside my apartment!
You can start with a succulent plant on your windowsill or bring in a few house plants. And if you have an outdoor space or terrace, you can purchase 2-3 established plants at your local garden center (unless you’re a badass and want to start from seeds or seedlings!)
Take your time with these new plant babies. Get to know them. Water them, sit with them, talk with them. Name them. Be present with their beautiful energy! Even if it’s just 5 minutes a day, sit with your plants. Touch them, smell them, look at them. Notice the details of their being…what do their leaves look like? What delicate intricacies are noticeable on their flower petals?
I promise you, after a few minutes of intentional interaction with your plant friends, you’ll feel MUCH more grounded, rooted and calm.
So, with all that being said…what is one way you will strengthen your foundation this month with the help of Mother Nature? Because remember, it’s in the small, daily habits that we truly cultivate strong roots and a thriving foundation!
